How to Prepare & Store Your Liner
Follow these steps to ensure your liner is ready for use and stays in perfect condition:
1. Initial Cleaning
Unroll your liner and wash it in warm, soapy water before its first use.
Rinse the liner under hot water on both sides for a couple of minutes.
Dry the liner thoroughly.
This process will help to uncurl the liner.
2. Storing the Liner
Place the liner into the former. Ensure the angled end of the liner is on the outside.
Insert the former base and the liner base.
Store your kit in this manner to maintain the proper shape of your liner.
Stacking Your Cake Layers
Use the same size cake as your Frost Form kit, for example, if you are using a 6” kit you would bake a 6” cake. Wrap your cake layers and leave them in the fridge overnight. Then you are ready to trim your chilled cake using your crumb cutter.
1. Secure your liner base onto your former base using a small bit of buttercream or ganache. Make sure your liner base is flat and centered. Place your liner into your crumb cutter and place both on top of your former base & liner base. You will not need to fasten your clip for this.
2. Pipe a generous amount of buttercream or ganache on top of your former base & liner base to adhere to your first layer of cake. Slide your first layer of cake into the liner, pressing it down to secure it well to the former base & liner base.
3. Using a large piping bag filled with your frosting of choice, begin to pipe your layers of frosting. Continue to place your layers of sponge and pipe in your frosting till complete. Ensure to press down your cake layers well to secure them each time.
4. Make sure your cake and the liner are properly centered using the guide on your liner base. Slide your crumb cutter up halfway to ensure your liner is straight and sitting flush with your crumb cutter. Then place your cake in the fridge for about 45 minutes or until your frosting is completely firm and set. You can also set it in the freezer for 20 minutes.
5. Carefully slide your crumb cutter off the cake and peel off your liner to reveal your perfectly straight cake!
TIP: Your crumb cutter should slide off easily once you have followed step 4 carefully. However, if you find it hard to remove your crumb cutter, turn your cake and liner upside down, with your clip over the edge of your counter, and push your crumb cutter down.
Placing Your Cake into Your Frost Form
6. Place a small item into the center of your former. This can be any household item such as tinned goods, a glass/jar, a Dummy, or a tin. Then place your cake with your former base & liner base on top of this small item.Tip: Use an item that is slightly taller than your former.
7. Wrap your liner around your former base and slide it down into your former. Make sure the angled side of the liner is overlapped on the outside and that the bumpy side of your liner is facing outwards.
8. Hold your former and lift it up to easily slide your cake into your former. You can now secure your clip on your liner. Your clip is not designed to be folded, simply insert the curved clip into the opening. Make sure you have an even space all the way around before filling. Adjust the cake if needed. Leave your cake in the fridge until you are ready to fill.
Filling Your Frost Form
We recommend using our Butter Ganache recipe to start with as it's super easy to make and you can pour it straight into your Frost Form from your bowl! You can follow our recipe at the beginning of this booklet.
9. Depending on what frosting you are using, you will pipe or pour your frosting into the space in between your liner and the cake. If using buttercream, you must soften it to a custard consistency, the softer the better! If you are using a piping bag, use a large piping bag in order to maintain pressure. Make sure to follow our recipes for more detailed instructions on using different frostings.
10. Make sure to cover the top of your cake with your frosting. Use your frost finisher to scrape around and tidy up the top of your cake if needed. You can also gently tap Your Frost Form on your counter to help level out the top and remove any air bubbles.
11. Place your cake on top of your small object and pull down your former to release the cake. Take your cake off your stand.
12. Unclip your liner and gently peel your liner to reveal your cake.
13. Use your frost finisher to run up the seam created by your liner and to scrape the top to smooth if necessary. Fill in any air bubbles with your leftover frosting and scrape away to smooth.14. To remove your former base, place a cake board on top of your cake and flip it upside down.14.1 Then use a small sharp knife or a palette knife to carefully slide it between your former base & liner base until it pops off easily.14.2 Using the same palette knife/knife, carefully lift and peel off your liner base.14.3 Spread some frosting on the top of your cake (technically the bottom of your cake).14.4 Finally place another cake board on top, flip once more and remove the board from the top of your cake. You can then use your frost finisher to tidy up the space where your cake meets your board.
15. Most importantly, snap, share and tag your creations on social media.
